Hummingbird Sage (Salvia spathacea) is a rare native essential oil, first distilled in recorded history in 1997 by Dr. Amy Inez Hazard at Refugio Gardens — the exclusive source of authentic Hummingbird Sage Essential Oil, verified by GC–MS. As children, walking through the woods, we rubbed hummingbird sage leaves and flowers on our skin for their wonderful scent — we call it nature's perfume. Now that same wild sweetness — a buoyant (Z)-β-ocimene profile (26.48%) — is captured in a lotion that is calming and centering for the mind, soothing for the skin, and unmistakably Californian.
The Aroma
A scent reminiscent of a spring walk beneath coastal oaks, with a fresh cineole–pinene opening, a sweet green-floral heart, and a quiet herbal-woody veil. Hummingbird Sage resembles Clary Sage but sweeter and less woody, its clarifying sweetness lifted further by organic Lavender's soft floral calm. Simply inhaling this blend can quiet anxiety, center the mind, and gently uplift low spirits.

- Hummingbird Sage (Salvia spathacea): A rare native essential oil with a distinctive (Z)-β-ocimene (26.48%), camphor (16.37%), and 1,8-cineole (15.50%) profile, GC–MS verified for authenticity. Native Californians brewed its teas for fevers and headaches and treasured its fragrant leaves as a natural aromatic and tonic for the spirit. Described clinically as calming, centering, and gently uplifting — easing anxiety and low mood. First artisan-distilled in 1997.
- Lavender: Organically grown, classic calming companion — traditionally used to ease tension, quiet the mind, and support restful sleep. Its soft floral notes cradle Hummingbird Sage's wild sweetness.

- Use diluted essential oils on the skin (Carrier oils like Jojoba are great for this in a 10% essential oil to 90% carrier base oil ratio).

- Its important to keep essential oils away from your eyes. If oil does get in your eye, do not flush it out with water. You can dilute the area immediately with vegetable or carrier oil by placing the vegetable oil on a tissue and gently wiping the eye area.
